New Debit Cards Coming

On Wednesday, February 27, RMECU will switch to SHAZAM for debit card processing .

Please check out our FAQs below to help you with this conversion. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call the credit union.

When will my new card arrive?
New debit cards were mailed Monday, February 11, 2019 and should arrive between February 15 and February 25. If you do not receive a card by Friday, February 22, 2019, please call the credit union at 262-637-7274.

How do I activate my new card?
Call 1-800-717-4923 from a phone number associated with your RMECU account to activate your card and customize your PIN. Have your new card available and If you have recently changed your phone number, please call us as soon as possible. We will have to update your phone number in order for you to activate your card and select your PIN.

Can I activate my new card prior to February 27?
Absolutely! And we encourage you to do so. By activating and selecting your PIN prior to February 27, you will be ready to use your card immediately on February 27. Just be sure to use your current card until then.

Do I need to wait for a PIN in the mail?
No, and you do not need the PIN to activate your card. We are no longer sending PINs in the mail and you will not activate at an ATM.

Can I change my PIN?
Yes! With this new debit card processor, you will choose your PIN during activation. Should you forget your PIN, call 800-717-4923 to reset. You will need the card number and your SSN in order to reset your PIN.

When can I use my new card?
You will use your new card starting Wednesday, February 27, 2019. Please continue to use your current debit card until that day.

What do I if my card doesn’t work on February 27?
Make sure you have activated your card and set your PIN. If you have done that and experience any problems using your new card with the PIN, try using your card as ‘credit’. There is a short conversion window when the networks are switching over and you may experience issues with PIN transactions. If you continue to have issues, please call the credit union.

My current card expires this month. Will I get a new card?
Yes, you will be receiving two new debit cards this month. You can disregard the card that has the STAR emblem on the back as that one will no longer work on February 27. Keep and activate the card with the SHAZAM logo on the back as that is your new debit card for the conversion.

Why the change?
Our new debit card vendor, SHAZAM, provides both you and the credit union with new features and better processing while improving the credit union’s efficiency and decreasing expense. We are then able to take the cost savings and provide new or enhance products/services for the membership.

What about my recurring/automatic payments?
Since we are issuing all new debit cards with new numbers, you will need to contact any companies that regularly withdraw from your account using your debit card and provide them with the new card information. We realize this is an inconvenience and sincerely apologize.

What are the new features with SHAZAM?
SHAZAM BOLT$ is a free app that is available to all debit cardholders. With BOLT$, you will be to set transaction alerts, turn your debit card on and off, send money to virtually anyone, check your balance without logging in using the Quick Balance feature and more. Search for SHAZAM BOLT$ in the Apple or Google app stores.
Card Design is a little different. We have chosen a slightly different look which is easier to read. For security reasons and fraud prevention, we cannot describe the card design on our website.
Expiration Dates are extending out to 36 months from the current 24 months.
Card Activation/PIN selection is now done at the same time in one phone call. This is for your convenience and eliminates the wait for a PIN to arrive in the mail.
Temporary Debit Cards are coming with this transition as well. If you lose your card, are victim to fraud, or open a new account and can’t wait for your card to come in the mail, we will now be able to issue you a debit card that can be activated and used immediately while your personalized card comes in the mail.

I currently have an ATM card. Will I get a new card?
Yes. Anyone with an ATM card will be receiving a debit card that will work as an ATM card.

What do I do with my old debit card after February 27?
After February 27, you will want to destroy your old debit card by running it through a shredder equipped to shred plastic cards or by cutting the card into several pieces. If you are more comfortable, you may bring your old card into the credit union for destruction.

Will transaction limits be changing?
Transaction limits will remain the same as they currently are with a Total Daily limit of $1000 and a Daily ATM limit of $310. If you have requested higher daily limits, your card will default back to these limits on February 27.
